Anne Shirley, as an 11-year-old girl, sets foot in Green Gables. Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, a brother and sister who are farmers, are the owners of Green Gables. They decide to take care of a 10-11 year old boy, but the person responsible for bringing the orphan from the orphanage to Green Gables mistakenly brings a girl named Anne Shirley, whose parents had passed away when she was three months old, to Green Gables, and Anne stays there and helps Marilla with household chores instead of helping Matthew with farming, creating interesting adventures. This story, written by "Lucy Maud Montgomery", was first published in 1908. It is written in a fictional style for readers of all ages. Montgomery was inspired to write the book from a newspaper article about a couple who had been sent a girl instead of a boy from an orphanage and had decided to keep her. Montgomery also depicted her own childhood experiences in the village of Prince Edward Island in it.
